Cassie Lybarger, '11, plays volleyball for Clay City. When she isn't busy with volleyball, she likes to read. She recommends the book The Giver by Lois Lowry.
Cassie outlined the novel for us: "Jonas, a young boy, lives in an ideal world in which there is no poverty, disaster, divorce, conflict, or inequality. In this book the society seems perfect. All adults have a job that they like or are interested in. Each family has a mother, father, and two children, one of each gender. There is no crime or disease, but there is a lot of laughter and joy. When the children become of age they are presented with a life job based on their talents. Jonas receives a special job in which he first becomes the Receiver of Memory and later the Giver." |
