![]() Clay City FCCLA members Chelsie Lee, Kaleb McKnelly, Melinda Seman, and Sonya Larrimore went to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for the FCCLA District 7 Fall Leadership Meeting. Members participated in workshops and learned interpersonal communication skills. Sonya Larrimore went to workshops on dating relationships and women's self-defense. "The workshops were a very educational experience. They taught girls to defend themselves in dangerous situations…..like walking the other way if you see someone ahead of you on a dark street." If you can't avoid a confrontation, and "they come toward you, take a small step back on your strongest leg and make sure your hands are up and ready to defend yourself. If someone attacks you, one of the easiest ways to defend yourself is to hit them in the nose with the heel of your hand and then run. The idea is not to beat someone up but to escape at the first chance." |
