Today's art lesson from Jennifer Sarver of Cedarhurst Arts focused on Monet. Students learned a bit about the author's life and style. Specifically Ms. Sarver explained how Monet studied the movement of light as the sun changed position and conveyed a sense of motion and stillness through his brushstrokes. Students studied some photos of his most famous pieces and then tried their hand at imitating his style. Thank you to Victoria Phelps, Elementary Paraprofessional, and Gracie Donaldson, Freshman, for taking photos.

The Clay County Health Department has been visiting Clay City Schools for an Anti-Vaping campaign.  Mr. Wattle's PE classes  have learned about healthy choices and the dangers associated with vaping and other addictive substances.  Mr. Wattles, a veteran health educator, believes in giving students good information and plenty of encouragement to stay on the right path with their health.  The Physical Education department at Clay City is dedicated to partnering with community organizations to provide our students with opportunities that extend beyond the gymnasium.  Pictured are 6th grade students engaging in surveys, question and answer sessions, and collaborative exercises.  We are grateful to all the support the local health department provides for our students and our community.

The Clay City PBIS team has been providing plenty of treats lately. The "cool kids" pictured here are enjoying ice cream after lunch. Thanks to the PBIS Team Tiffany Kuenstler, Beth Hance, Beth Yates, Candace Walker, Sarah Henderson, Kim Ahlfield, and Courtney Mitchel for fundraising and planning these celebrations. PBIS is currently accepting donations. Email any member to learn more. The next fundraiser will be Penny Wars where each class competes to collect the most pennies. Sabotaging other classes is easy with dollar bills. Let the games begin.

As part of the Title Grant, Cedarhurst Art has been visiting Clay City Schools monthly. In January, students learned about Pablo Picasso and tried their "hand" at one of his most famous paintings The Flowers of Peace, 1958.  Volunteers from Mrs. Courtney O'Dell's FCS classes have helped during this program, and a variety of staff pitch in each month.  Jessica Young, custodial staff, is an integral part of the program success and coordinates many of the day's transitions while maintaining a clean environment for each new group.  Pictured are Jennifer Sarver from Cedarhurst Art, Clay City Paraprofessional Victoria Phelps, and PE Teacher Jazmyn Rodriquez tracing student hands as a personalized keepsake for families. Check out our students creating their own masterpieces!
